Foundation of Contemporary Fusion Belly Dance Technique

ABOUT INVOCATION: This 30 hour intensive will dive into the foundation of Kami Liddle’s signature style of dance that she refers to as contemporary fusion belly dance. This style fuses present-day belly dance genres with contemporary dance. Contemporary fusion belly dance combines strong leg and foot work with fluidity in the spine and precision in the torso. It emphasizes strength and flexibility, rhythmic and musical phrasing, and most importantly, self-expression. This course will cover these elements and serve as a strong base for any level dancer as they move through the Krysalis courses and their personal path as a dancer.
Each class will begin with an in-depth warm up to help build strength and flexibility aimed at creating strong dancers with increased body awareness. Warm ups will emphasize cross-training while combining Vinyasa Yoga, floor barre, and traditional modern dance exercises. Dancers will develop their dance technique including isolations, foot patterns, turns, and layering. Classes will culminate in learning full-body movement phrases, concentrating on spinal articulation, extensive arm work, and spatial intent.
Dancers will learn the fundamental concepts to use the choreographic phrases provided throughout the course as a framework to find their own artistic individuality.

Audit: This price is only available to those who have already tested and certified in Invocation. The cost is $250

The show room is a 2500 sqft studio with sprung floors and tall mirrors. Access via public transit from Muni bus #19. If driving it is just between highways 101 and 280 with free parking.
Prerequisites

A minimum of 3 years of dance training

The ability to dance 6 hours per class day

Invocation Prep is recommended but not required

There is no longer a homework requirement, however there will be two recommended books that I will be referring to during the intensive.
Certification and Testing
Certification will be awarded to dancers who attend and actively participate in all classes and exercises and who pass the final exam. Testing will be done on the last day of class. Testing requires an additional fee of $50. Testing is optional, but is required before enrolling in the advanced technique course Elevation.

Early-bird discount: $500 if you register before April 15th
Price increases to $650 on April 16th. Payment plans are available.

Once you have registered, you will be added to a Facebook group where roommate/housing arrangements, carpools and more will be organized.

What's the refund policy?
All sales are final and not transferable to another course. While there are no refunds on tuition, it is possible to transfer your spot to another dancer.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If you are not able to attend you may sell your spot to another student. Selling or transferring your spot is your responsibility. To sell your spot, please first email krysalisdance@gmail.com. If there is a waitlist, you will be connected with the first student on the waitlist to manage payment* for the spot together. If there is no waitlist, you may seek out other students to purchase your spot. Once the spot has been purchased, please send an email confirming you have received the payment and are officially transferring your spot to krysalisdance@gmail.com, ccing the new student. All accommodations will be made for transfers up to 10 days before the first day of the course.
*Note: Transfer payments are the responsibility of the student selling their spot.
